Theology “Uncorked”

September 19 @ 7:00 pm 8:30 pm

Saint Brigid Parish Hall
4735 Cass Street – Pacific Beach

No Cost. Donations Accepted

A casual gathering where we can have a glass of wine, socialize, hear a brief presentation, and ask questions in order to gain a deeper understanding of our faith.

Speaker: Brian Curry
Topic: Introduction to Scripture

About the Topic:
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that to interpret Scripture correctly, the reader must be attentive to what the human authors truly wanted to affirm, and to what God wanted to reveal to us by their words. In order to discover the sacred authors’ intention, the reader must take into account the conditions of their time and culture.

Since Sacred Scripture is inspired, there is another and no less important principle of correct interpretation, without which Scripture would remain a dead letter. Sacred Scripture must be read and interpreted in the light of the same Spirit by whom it was written.

The presentation will address Hebrew (Old Testament) and New Testament scripture authorship, sources, historical context, and canonization (the process by which the books of the Bible were discovered and designated as authoritative).
