Anza Borrego Desert Hike
Join us on our annual hiking trip to the Anza Borrego Desert. We’ll meet at the State Park Visitor’s Center to find out where the wildflowers may be in bloom, enjoy a sack lunch in park just outside of Borrego Springs, followed by a visit to the famous metal sculptures scattered around the desert floor just outside of town.
Afterwards we’ll split into two groups.
Those looking for an easy to moderate hike, can join Group 1 on the Borrego Palm Canyon trail which is a 3 mile loop.
Those interested in a moderate to strenuous hike (depending on your physical condition and weather conditions) can join Group 2, who will hike a steep incline to an abandoned calcite mine and hike back through a narrow slot canyon where sections of the trail will include 4-6 foot drops and some potential muddy areas in the ravine. This is a 4 mile hike with a 800′ elevation gain.
While we’re not organizing carpools during the pandemic, you’re welcome to follow us from Ramona or meet us at the Visitor’s Center. Don’t forget to bring plenty of water, a sack lunch, sunscreen and spending money for souvenirs and/or optional dinner on the patio at “The Palms at Indian Head” historic resort. Each hike should be finished by approximately 5:00 pm. If you wish to join us for dinner please note when you RSVP.
